Interest is growing in the Northeast in sponsoring a refugee family. Several people have contacted Tyneside Welcomes about setting up their own group.
This is great!
Tyneside Welcomes was set up with the hope that it could act as an umbrella organisation. This would save new groups from going through the time-consuming process of setting up a charity of their own. To that end, a Newcastle-based group, NE1 Welcome, has joined forces with the original Tyneside Welcomes activists. The original group is based in and around Benton and will become NE12 Welcomes.
Both groups will work towards supporting their own family but will share policies and work together over fundraising, safeguarding and liaison with the Home Office.
